LOTUS AND STUPA, Okunoin Cemetery, Mt. Koya, Japan Mt. Koya (Koya-san) is the home of the Shingon Buddhist sect founded by the monk KuKai. Okunoin Cemetery has nearly 10,000 graves. Multiple Buddhist inns give visitors a glimpse of a monk’s life. Timothy McCoy photographed this image in 2002 at Mt. Koya, Japan, in 35mm format under available light conditions using transparency film. He printed it in 2008 on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag archival paper with an Epson 9800 printer using 3-K archival Ultrachrome inks. The mat is 4-ply, museum-quality, acid-free, unbuffered mat board.
