I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy and a master’s degree in Pharmacology. After serving as a captain in the US Army at Brook Army Medical Center, I attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio.  I completed a combined M.D./Ph.D. program there and a residency in Anesthesiology at the University of California, San Francisco. After a few years in private practice, I became an Associate Professor at the UT Health Science Center, San Antonio.

I left that career to attend the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. I have also had the opportunity to learn from such renowned photographers as Fred Sommer, Paul Caponigro, John Sexton, Joyce Tennyson, Thomas Carabasi, Christopher James, Mark Osterman, Dick Arentz, Paul Taylor, Lothar Osterburg, and Clay Harmon.

I currently live and work in Cumming, GA, with Jan, my wife of 51 years.
